Wellness
Exams: At 360 Pet Medical, we
focus on wellness and prevention. We recommend yearly or twice-yearly
exams for our patients, depending on their age. This is especially
important as our pets age about 7 times faster than us. Wellness
exams include: weight check, examination of ears/mouth/teeth,
listening to heart and lungs, and evaluation of abdomen/lymph
nodes/skin. During these exams, questions can be answered
as to diet, supplements, and any concerns the owner may be
having.
Preventative Care: Part of preventative
care may include administering vaccinations, based on the
patient’s lifestyle. At 360 Pet Medical, we follow AAHA
and AVMA guidelines for vaccinations, therefore avoiding over-vaccination.
For both our canine and feline friends, we strictly follow
Montana legal guidelines for rabies vaccinations.
For
canines, we offer 3-year distemper/adenovirus/parvovirus vaccination
protocols utilizing recombinant vaccine technology. This new
technology avoids the immuno-suppression that occurs with
the use of modified live vaccines. Recombinant vaccines also
provide a boost in antibody titers to more dogs than those
in the group receiving modified live vaccines. (www.Merial.com)
For
our feline patients, we also recommend a 3-year calici/rhinotracheitis/panolekopenia
virus vaccine protocol. Feline leukemia, typically recommended
for our outdoor cat population, is typically administered
annually and is given intradermally in non-adjuvanted form
and also with recombinant technology. This delivery method
provides faster immune response and a greatly reduced risk
of reaction. In addition, we utilize only the non-adjuvanted
rabies vaccine for our feline friends. Adjuvants in vaccines
have been linked to vaccine-induced fibro sarcomas. Avoiding
adjuvants will significantly reduce the likelihood of developing
a vaccine-associated sarcoma.
We
also offer titer analysis, to determine whether vaccines are,
indeed, needed.
Dentistry: Dentistry in our animal population
requires anesthesia, a much preferred and safer method than
just using sedation. The use of anesthesia allows us to control
the airway and prevent the fluid from ultrasonic scaling from
entering the airway, something simple sedation cannot provide.
We offer full ultrasonic scaling and polishing under anesthesia.
All dentistries include: pre-anesthetic blood work, IV catheter
and fluids, anesthetic monitoring (EKG, pulse oximetry, and
temperature).
Soft Tissue Surgery: Surgeries are done
in our state-of-the-art surgical suite equipped with electro-cautery
and a heated surgical table. All surgeries include pre-anesthetic
blood work, safe anesthetic protocols tailored to each pet,
constant anesthetic monitoring (EKG, pulse oximetry, and temperature)
by a veterinary technician, and hospitalization for the day—or
overnight—depending on the procedure performed.
Spays/Neuters:
All
spays and neuters follow the same protocols as our other soft-tissue
surgeries.
In-house
Laboratory: Having
our own in-house laboratory means we can expedite information
for many diagnostic cases. We are able to quickly run and
evaluate a variety of blood tests, including: complete blood
counts, full chemistry panels, thyroid levels and heartworm
tests. If further testing or evaluation is needed outside
of our in-house abilities, we have access to several state-of-the-art
veterinary labs across the country which offer rapid turn-around
times.
Digital Radiography: Our state-of-the-art
radiograph machine allows us to immediately view images and
make diagnoses. Fewer retakes are needed due to bad exposures
or inappropriate positioning, reducing the stress you pet
may feel during the process. Additionally, we are able to
send digital images to specialists for quick evaluation or
further interpretation, if needed.
Laser Therapy:
Laser therapy is used in veterinary medicine to aid in healing and to treat pain. It is a visible light that is absorbed at the cellular level. It has many effects, including: accelerating collagen synthesis, increasing the inflammation phase of wound healing, enhancing immune cells to help fight infection, and reducing pain by release of endorphins. Indications for laser therapy include: arthritis, tendonitis, wounds, edema, neuralgia, tendon and ligament injuries, and pain.
Underwater Treadmill:
The underwater treadmill has many functions and benefits. It provides graduated weight-bearing exercise in a protected glass chamber. The water height is determined by the practitioner and consideration is made regarding the animal’s condition and comfort level. The buoyancy provides support to affected joints, relieving as much as 80 -85% of the weight on that joint. In addition, the water provides mild resistance to motion, which helps to efficiently strengthen muscles. Indications for underwater treadmill include: degenerative joint disease (arthritis), post-operative rehabilitation (TPLOs, for example), neurologic retraining, cardiovascular health, weight loss and general conditioning.
